The Abraham Family
The Abraham family was referred to our FSW Practitioner by their sons’ school after the family were put in temporary emergency accommodation following a difficult move from unsuitable, mould-infested housing. Their situation was compounded by profound tragedy. Mum Elisha had survived a car crash that claimed the life of their infant daughter Mary. Elisha was left with a brain injury amid ongoing medical issues that cause her constant pain, while her husband Adam works tirelessly through his grief, doing endless shifts as a delivery driver to support his shattered family and to care for his chronically ill wife. They have two young boys, Noah aged 8 and Aaron aged 6. FSW’s compassionate and consistent support is transforming life for this family.
The FSW Practitioner provided immediate practical assistance with food from FSW’s foodbank, and advice on local community supermarkets, ensuring the family’s urgent basic needs were met. She offered emotional support and connected the family with mental health charities to help them process their grief and trauma. The Practitioner was also acting as their advocate, liaising with local housing authorities, and supporting their move to permanent accommodation in a more appropriate flat in better surroundings.
Recognising the ongoing challenges, FSW is helping the family apply for their Personal Independence Payment and trying to speed up treatment for the mother’s chronic pain. Family Support Work’s help has been life-changing for this family. Thanks to their Practitioner’s tireless commitment, they are now living in stable housing, and the boys are thriving at school. Mum is still receiving support for her emotional and physical health, and the family is rebuilding as best they can after their devastating loss. While their bereavement journey is ongoing, FSW’s dedication is continuing to provide stability and hope, so that Adam, Elisha, Noah and Aaron are all facing the future with greater resilience, confidence and support.
