South Downs Soloists are a Chichester-based vocal ensemble of eight professional singers, founded in 2021, with a wide-ranging repertoire featuring a full vocal choral sound “a capella”.
Their founder and director, George Haynes, has extensive experience as a countertenor, teacher, accompanist, conductor and composer, from time as Organ Scholar at All Saints’ Church, Northampton, as Choral Scholar in Wells Cathedral and York Minster, Lay Clerk at Peterborough Cathedral (including choral direction of two associated choirs), and is currently Lay Vicar at Chichester Cathedral, accompanist for the Prebendal School and Fernhurst Choral Society, as well as conductor of Havant’s Cantemus Choir.
This concert, offers works both sacred and secular by British composers between the 14th and 20th centuries, from Dunstable to Tallis, Tomkins, MacMillan, Elgar and Finzi.
